In our society, how is God’s name misused? Consider cases such as using it meaninglessly, underestimating God, using it in an empty way, or making others afraid of God. 2. Have you ever misused God’s name? In what ways have you done so? 3. How do you think your parents (or caregivers) have influenced your understanding of God? List specific examples. And then compare them with what the Bible teaches about God. 4. Read Matthew 18:15–35. 1) Verse 35 is the conclusion. What does it say? 2) How can we use the authority to bind and loose (see verses 18–20)? Who decides whether to bind or loose? What is the danger of binding—in other words, what is the problem with not forgiving? 3) What is the difference between praying for forgiveness together with other believers and praying alone? Imagine praying with a prayer partner. What thoughts or feelings might you have while praying to forgive someone? What role might your partner play for you? 4) How will you use God’s name this week in a way that brings him honor? God created me as his masterpiece. Yet at times my heart is ruled by wealth, reputation, success, or human relationships. Is there anything that has effectively become a “god” in my life—something I fear, something I am concerned about, something that controls me? 2. God’s jealous love is the sorrow that asks, “Why are you ruled by something less valuable than you?” Do I truly believe that I am precious to God? How do I receive his jealous love? Do I treat it merely as doctrine or vague knowledge? Or do I receive it as love personally directed toward me? 3. I am precious to God. What causes you to doubt or struggle to accept that truth? How do you establish your identity as someone who is precious to God? 4. Love is not mere formality but relationship. Am I finding comfort simply in acting like a Christian or in habitual worship practices? How will I concretely express my love for God this week? How will I spend time with the God I love? Let’s read Job 42:1–6. 1) From this passage, what can you learn about God and human beings? 2) After coming to this understanding, what did Job do? Imagine how his feelings may have changed. 3) What do these truths teach you personally? How will you respond? 3. Why is humility essential in order to recognize God’s greatness, accept who we truly are, and live in the reality of being loved by God and loving Him in return? If we are not humble, how might we begin to think about these things? 4. Have you ever experienced the greatness of God? Write down the specific circumstances of that experience.
